Issue #1443      17 February 2010

Jock Ferguson

The Communist Party of Australia expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Labor MLC and former State Secretary of the Australia Manufacturing Workers Union, Jock Ferguson on the 13th February aged 64.

Born in Glasgow Scotland he moved to Australia at age 17 and rapidly joined the union movement while working as an apprentice fitter.

His commitment to the labour movement and workers rights saw him promoted to the State Secretary of his union in the year 2000.

Jock was elected to State Parliament in the 2008 elections. He is survived by his partner Tina, eight children and three grandchildren.

Jock represented not only the members of his union but through his involvement in International solidarity he supported the struggle of workers around the world. A sad loss for the labour movement.
