The Communist Party of Australia supports and is campaigning for a YES vote in the coming referendum on an Indigenous Voice to Parliament. As the Party statement of 29 January this year said:
“We listen to the words from the Uluru Statement from the Heart: ‘We seek constitutional reforms to empower our people and take a rightful place in our own Country. We call for the establishment of a First Nations Voice in the Constitution.’ ”
“The referendum question presents us with an opportunity for historical change, for Australia to enshrine a First Nations Voice. The answer must be YES!” said Andrew Irving, CPA General Secretary.
A “NO” vote would represent a win for racism, colonialism, intolerance, and the far right in Australia. The CPA has pledged its forces to campaign for a YES vote. This will be a platform to further the struggles for Indigenous rights.”
If YOU are wanting to campaign, one thing you can do is attend one of the free workshops being held by Unions for Yes.
This free workshop is open to all unionists and community members who want to be part of the Unions for YES campaign!
This workshop will focus on the key campaign messages and how you can have the most effective conversations to persuade your workmates, friends, neighbours, and fellow community members to vote YES!
It will cover common objections and prepare you with all the responses to them that we know work best.
The workshop will also give you an overview of the Uluru Statement from the Heart and why the Voice is so important as a first step towards Voice, Treaty, and Truth.
If you are a unionist or community member who wants to sign up to one of our free online courses you can do so here:
