6 February to bring attention to failures of the NSW prison system. There have been been 3 deaths in custody already this year, and the failures of the prison system are being made glaringly obvious with recidivism on the increase.
Prisoners are being traumatised by their prison experience and then released without support after having no support in the prison system.
The time has come for the NSW government to take a hard look at itself, study the Norwegian experience and start instituting more humane practices that see prisoners being reformed, not severely damaged.
The demonstration was organised by New Directionz and ‘Jailingtruthsexposed.’
