Australian Defence Force, stick to your budget

Dear Editor,

Media reports on the weekend of 17-18 February 20 2024 about Australian Defence Force (ADF) selling land to raise cash for its new weapons systems are extremely disappointing. The ADF garners about 10 per cent of Australia’s annual budget and is looking to increase this with the big spend on nuclear powered submarines by around 1-3 percentage points for next 20 years. The military is robbing the budgets of Health, Education, and Welfare while the ADF is rocked with overspending and inappropriate expenditures scandals.

How about Australian Defence Force working within a reasonable budget and gifting property such as RAAF Base Richmond to the State Government’s ‘Homes NSW’ so that public and affordable housing could be built for the people of NSW?

Yours sincerely
