May Day Solidarity with the Lebanese Communist Party

May Day came early for the Lebanese comrades in Melbourne. By invitation, the CPA General Secretary and Melbourne Branch President attended a May Day dinner on 25 April in Coburg.  Three anthems were played, Australian, Lebanese, and the Lebanese Party anthem, and the crowd gave an enthusiastic welcome to comrade Andrew Irving.

Comrade Irving reminded the Lebanese comrades how close the world was moving on the topic of Palestine, with only the USA standing in the way of full UN recognition of the Palestinian State, and even such staunch US allies as the UK and Australia either voting in favour of recognition or abstaining.  Comrade Andrew also pointed to the tide of protest around the world, as the full horror of the Israeli genocide becomes inescapable, and congratulated the Lebanese Communist Party on the recent election of its Peace and Solidarity Committee, and powerful efforts in the face of Israeli aggression.
