- Issue #2107
Dear Editor,
I regret to say my letter is of a very negative tone, but I think it’s justifiable in the light of my extremely strong disapproval regarding the last issue of the Guardian (Issue #2106) using AI art alongside an article.
AI art simply put in its current form is a direct act of class warfare. Talented artists exist not only within the CPA but in surrounding local communities of our branches for us to better utilize. The fact is AI art is plagiaristic in nature. Nothing it generates is original as it simply scans pictures of actual art created by humans and re-renders them alongside a practically infinite pool of other art, essentially republishing existing work free from copyright or commission fees.
The capitalist class is honing in on AI art to simply make actual talented artists obsolete for no reason other than greed. Many companies in media, news, and advertising are already beginning to prioritise AI over giving work to artists, the majority of whom are of course struggling. Artists are essential to any communist movement before, during, and after revolution, bringing great visual metaphors/awareness to explain sometimes complicated Marxist concepts and showing continual successful campaigns under a state socialist system.
I feel as if I speak for a lot of younger comrades, many of whom I already have had this same conversation with already, that is very tone-deaf for our own newspaper to blatantly publish a direct tactic to keep a section of the working class (the artists) down.
The party should instead focus on supporting artists within or outside party when possible in payment of a pittance or just exposure, or simply use free stock images or even no images at all rather than stoop to the low that is AI art.
Che Janz,
CPA Sunshine Coast Branch President
