The Guardian was saddened to hear of the passing of Maria Hilario, a staunch member of the Communist Party of Australia, and a good friend of Cuba. Maria coordinated a monthly demonstration outside the US Consulate in Sydney, calling for an end to the USA’s cruel and inhumane blockade of Cuba. Maria was also a strong supporter of the Palestinian cause.
