The Australian media landscape is not a cheerful topic, what with bias, censorship of journalists, and media concentration, but there are sometimes good news stories.
For some time now, the Guardian has been using items from a blog sardonically titled everythingisfine, started by Australian journalist Alex McKinnon. Sydney-based journalist McKinnon started the site to report without fear or favour on, as he puts it “the relentless campaign of censorship, punishment and silence being waged against people in Australia who oppose Israel’s genocide in the Gaza Strip.”
Now he has joined forces with Antoun Issa, a journalist who resigned from Guardian Australia over its coverage of the Gaza genocide, to start deepcutnews.com.
Deepcut promises independent journalism that actually holds the powerful to account. If everythingisfine is anything to go by, it will be well worth a look.
