On 1 December members of the Communist Party of Australia (CPA) protested outside the Polish Embassy in Canberra against the attempt to ban the Communist Party of Poland by President Nawrocki.
Polish communists have a proud history. The Communist Party of Poland claims an inheritance to the original Polish United Worker’s Party (PZPR) which ruled the Polish People’s Republic between 1948 and 1989. Socialist Poland achieved a great deal. To this day Poland has one of the highest home ownership rates in the world. This is not due to anything done by successive governments since 1989, but because Polish citizens refuse to let their government repeal socialist-era housing laws.
Poverty and injustice is rife in contemporary Poland. The Communist Party of Poland advocates policies of free universal education and healthcare. It advocates nationalisation of major industries, and criticises capitalist privatisation and the stranglehold of NATO over the countries of Eastern Europe. It’s a progressive party that stands by the working people of Poland and their quest for a better life.
It also criticises the falsification of history, history “written by the victor,” instead of a balanced perspective on the achievements of socialist Poland.
This is crucial. We must resist historical revision. Even bourgeois commentators admit that China today is achieving things that no other country is able to achieve. Why is China able to do this? Because the Communist Party of China (CPC) did not liquidate itself. Deng Xiaoping did not bow to the bourgeois liberals who wanted to tear China apart in 1989 and bring down the People’s Republic. China stuck to the socialist path.
Now look what China is able to achieve today. Poland is not able to achieve this because it has given up on socialism. That’s the hard truth of it.
We stand with the Communist Party of Poland!
No to the revision of history!
No to anti-Communist red-baiting and lies!
Long live the legacy of great socialist Poland!
Onwards to a socialist future for the peoples of Poland and all Eastern Europe!
