The Ministry of Health in Gaza has issued an urgent appeal to the international community for intervention against the Israeli blockade, which obstructs basic humanitarian aid from entering the enclave.
The crisis has escalated with Israel’s tight cordon, restricting food and medicine, consequently increasing child mortality rates due to malnutrition and inadequate technical assistance. Critical blood banks, vital for treating victims of constant aggressions, are in a desperate situation threatening to paralyse the entire hospital network.
Laboratories and blood banks are on the verge of suspension due to a critical shortage of basic supplies, posing risks to vital tests for patients in intensive care and neonatal units. Blood compatibility tests, blood counts, and tumor diagnoses face imminent suspension, making adequate medical care impossible for thousands of injured and sick individuals who rely on these services for survival.
The humanitarian situation is exacerbated by the Israeli blockade, which systematically impedes the entry of medicines and food, leading to an alarming increase in child mortality from malnutrition and illness.
At the same time, the ambitious Flotilla of Spring is set to depart on 29 March.
Its aim is to break the illegal siege imposed by occupation forces against the Gaza Strip and denounce the ongoing genocide perpetrated by Israel for over two years.
The Global Flotilla Sumud collective confirmed that nearly 3,000 volunteers from more than 100 nations will participate in this land and sea deployment, sailing from strategic ports like Barcelona and Italy. This action seeks to deliver vital supplies and construction materials directly, given the paralysis of traditional diplomacy regarding the siege suffocating the Palestinian people.
This civilian mobilisation occurs at a moment of extreme urgency, following the Gaza Ministry of Health’s warning about the imminent closure of laboratories and blood banks.
The Global Flotilla Sumud called for international action to ensure medical aid reaches its destination and restores hospital operational capacity. The contingent affirmed its mission is strictly non-violent yet profoundly challenging, with the firm objective of bringing hope and relief to a population engulfed in destruction and criminal siege.
