Australia-Cuba-Friendship Society members in Adelaide are determined to support the Cuban people in their stand against the world’s mightiest war machine.
ACSF recently held a walk from Tarntanyangga, Victoria Square, through the lunchtime crowd in Central Market to the tune of Guantanamera, with the Cuban flag prominent.
Leaflets were distributed condemning the genocidal economic blockade of the small island nation in their brave stand against the monstrous maniac to their north. This support action formed part of the on-going “To Cuba With Love Campaign” that has raised thousands of dollars to help provide Cubans with essential medical supplies and other necessary equipment denied them by the US.
The march concluded at the office of Senator Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs, where ACFS SA President, Dave Lock, delivered a letter expressing concern over Australia’s recent abstention vote in the United Nations General Assembly regarding Cuba.
In the letter, ACFS SA Secretary, Dominique Lock challenged the Australian government’s excuses, particularly on the issue of human rights, when Australia has received severe criticism from the UN for its appalling record in its duty of care for Australian First Nations citizens.
ACFS SA will keep members and friends informed of the Foreign Minister’s response. Her presence at the Garma Festival at the time may indicate a concern for Indigenous peoples.
