Rally and march against the GST!
This may be your last chance to stop the GST * The claim that everyone will be better off under the GST is a lie. The GST shifts the tax burden onto low and middle income earners. It is regressive. * The GST cannot be made "fair". It is intrinsically unfair. It must be rejected outright. * Exemptions on food, compensation, income tax cuts are NOT permanent. The only thing that would be here to stay is the GST. * The rate of the GST will go up. It did overseas. Denmark introduced a GST at 10 per cent, now it is 25 per cent! On average, GST rates around the world have increased by 42 per cent. * You will pay a lot more than 10 per cent. Businesses will pass on to consumers all additional "compliance" costs associated with preparing for the GST and the ongoing policing of it. The extra costs are estimated to be billions and billions of dollars. * All goods will go up in price, even GST-exempt food items as businesses raise the price of all goods, to pass on "compliance" costs. * Non-GST price rises. Businesses will be able to cloak price rises under the "umbrella" of the 2000 Olympics, the millennium bug or general compliance costs. * Self-regulation of GST. Individual companies and industry associations will be allowed to monitor their own price levels and profit margins. Transparency will be lost and businesses will be able to rort the system. * The confusion over food exemptions will give the Government an excuse to include all food in the GST at some future point.
